Do you know what happens to animals before they’re at your dinner table? Animals such as cows, pigs, chickens, horses, and many other creatures are beaten, electrocuted, and bled to death. Slaughterhouses are the graves for many animals and they don’t die in peace at ALL. It is generally believed that animals are treated cruelly before and during their death in these slaughterhouses.
First of all, animals suffer terrible deaths in the houses. They aren’t killed properly. The people who work there have to shot a thick bullet through the animals’ heads and that usually fails to kill them, which only causes them more pain. “…cows are forced through a chute and shot in the head with a captive-bolt gun meant to stun them. But because the lines move so quickly and many workers are poorly trained, the technique often fails to render the animals insensible to pain.”(Slaughter: ‘They Die Piece by Piece’, www.peta.org) They also usually bleed to death. The workers will slit a small part of the animals’ throat and hang them to squirm their blood out. There’s a video to show this cruelty. In some cases, the animals are cut up or boiled alive. This goes for animals like dogs and cats.
Second, animals shouldn’t suffer things like this! They don’t deserve it! Animals have their throats slit open while they’re still alive and squirm the blood out as they bleed to death. “…many animals are still alive and conscious for as long as seven minutes after their throats have been cut.”(Slaughter: ‘They Die Piece by Piece)They should train their workers to aim for vulnerable places where their death will be unpainful and quick! Just as their deaths should always be, but they’re not. “It’s about the size and length of a thick pencil into it’s brain, right between the eyes, and that should render the animal dead.”(So when will your cow meet it’s end?) That last line is proof that some animals are, in fact, still alive while they’re being “killed”. Did you know animals even suffer when they’re being transported to the slaughterhouses? “Cattle who survive feedlots, dairy sheds, and veal farms face a hellish trip to the slaughterhouse. They are crammed onto trucks where they typically go without food, water, or rest for the duration of the journey, which can sometimes be days. Many cows collapse in hot weather; in the cold, cows sometimes freeze to the sides of the truck until workers pry them off with crowbars.”(‘Transport to the Slaughterhouse’) They ones who are alive and conscious but are too sick or injured to move are dragged off the truck by a rope tied to their legs. The ones who can walk, however, are scared and don’t want to get off. They are then shocked by electric prods or dragged off with chains!
Finally, the process for making the meat consumable is really bad and gross. There may be chemicals in the meat that are left there by spray dryers. “Spray drying is one of GEA Niro’s core businesses and perhaps the most important continuous drying technique for converting solids suspended or dissolved in a liquid formulation into powders. The feed is atomized into droplets; these droplets are directed into a controlled flow of hot air, powder particles are formed as moisture evaporates from each droplet, and the dried product is discharged from the drying chamber. Depending on the type and desired properties of the final powder, various spray dryer designs are selected.”(Process equipment for slaughterhouse by-products) Also, it’s really, really gross. After they torture the poor things, they are cut open, take their insides, take the rest of the blood, and then spray dry everything. I don’t even want to continue. For my last detail, slaughterhouse by-products can contain a disease given off by the animals when they’re being tortured to death. I’m not sure if it affects humans, but it’s still a disease.
I find this to be extremely important for people to know. Even if you won’t want to save animals by not eating meat, maybe fight for giving them a quicker death! Animals don’t deserve this treatment, no matter how worthless!
Animals cannot keep suffering like this.
